$9,200 goal to secure matching grant through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places initiative

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Imlay City Downtown Development Authority and Imlay City Rotary Club today announced a new crowdfunding campaign through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity. The campaign will support park renovations at Imlay City’s Rotary Park.

“The renovations to Imlay City’s Rotary Park will result in a beautiful public park that will bring the community together,” said MEDC Community Assistance Team Specialist Nate Scramlin. “The Public Spaces Community Places initiative allows residents, businesses, and others to harness their pride in Imlay City and be a part of its transformation.”

If Imlay City attains its crowdfunding goal of $9,200 by March 11, MEDC will provide a $9,200 matching grant. For project details and to donate, please visit: https://patronicity.com/project/rotary_park_renovation

“The DDA and Rotary Club are excited to be working with the Imlay City community to make much needed improvements through a crowdfunding campaign. When the new park is completed, it will truly be a community park, one that everyone, whether a resident or a visitor, can enjoy.”

Rotary Park is currently underused and features outdated equipment. The updated park will become a vibrant space offering families a place for expanded recreational activities. Old playground equipment will be removed, grounds will be excavated, play-area surfacing will be laid, and a new playground geared towards toddlers will be built.

The $30,500 renovation has $13,100 in already-committed donations. The crowdfunding campaign and matching grant would solidify plans to have the project complete by July 2015.

“Many Michigan communities are like Imlay City in that they have innovative ideas and goals to improve key assets in their cities, but funding is a constant hurdle,” said Michigan Municipal League CEO and Executive Director Dan Gilmartin. “This crowdfunding partnership involving MEDC and the League helps make these innovations reality. People who contribute to the further development of the Rotary Park should have a great sense of community pride once it’s completed.”

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity where local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of transformational projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
