$20,000 goal to secure matching grant through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places initiative

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Three Oaks Village Council, and the School of American Music today announced a new crowdfunding campaign through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity. The campaign will support a multi-purpose community center with a focus on art and music education.

If Three Oaks Arts & Education Center attains its crowdfunding goal of $20,000 by May 31, MEDC will provide a $20,000 matching grant. For project details and to donate, please visit: https://www.patronicity.com/project/three_oaks_arts__education_center#/.

“We are pleased to partner with Three Oaks residents, businesses, and other stakeholders to ensure a successful crowdfunding campaign that will bring this project to life and positively impact the community,” said MEDC Community Development Director Katharine Czarnecki.

With this campaign, the Village of Three Oaks and the School of American Music will redevelop the former 1,412 square foot Village Hall into a welcoming, visually appealing Arts & Education Center. The Three Oaks Arts & Education Center will feature a large general activities room, an all-digital recording studio, and a room with a kitchenette. To encourage interaction outdoors, the center will provide outdoor seating, chess and coffee tables, a performance stage, and a barbeque for events.

"The campaign to re-purpose the old Village Hall and turn it into an inviting center has been a lightning rod for attracting community attention and volunteering,” said President of the Board of the Arts and Education Center Garth Taylor. “Now, with the crowdfunding campaign, we will have the funds to build the project in a beautiful way."

The local community has already expressed their support for the Arts & Education Center by joining together to complete the development of the 589 square foot general program room. In addition, numerous teachers have lined up to offer their services in areas such as, music, art, recording engineering, martial arts, Spanish, yoga, choir, and more. Completion of this campaign will enable the Three Oaks to further develop this community center and bring together residents of all ages to partake in educational activities.

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity where local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
