Sparta Area Recreation Association launches crowdfunding campaign for Sparta Sports Complex

$100,000 goal to secure matching grant through MEDC’s Public Spaces Community Places initiative

Lansing, Mich. – The Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Sparta Area Recreation Association today announced a new crowdfunding campaign through Michigan-based crowdfunding platform Patronicity. The campaign will support the construction of a centralized youth sports facility in the Village of Sparta.

If the Sparta Recreation Sports Complex attains its crowdfunding goal of $100,000 by June 25, MEDC will provide a $100,000 matching grant. For project details and to donate, please visit: https://www.patronicity.com/project/sparta_recreation_sports_complex#/.

“This project has generated a lot of community support and excitement, we are pleased to partner with residents, business owners, and other enthusiasts to help keep the momentum going,” said MEDC Community Development Director Katharine Czarnecki.

Over 1,200 kids actively use youth sports fields in Sparta every day. Aside from giving these children a variety of sports fields in one, easily accessible area, the Sparta Sports Complex will provide other amenities too. The new complex will provide restrooms, a concession stand, wheelchair and disability access, paved walking and nature trails, a playground, benches and more.

“The vision of a recreation complex has been in the conceptual stage for years and finally due to the collaboration between Sparta Village and Sparta Township and multiple non-profit organizations, the vision is becoming a reality,” said Sparta Downtown Development Director Elizabeth Morse.

Construction for Sparta Recreation Sports Complex has already begun. Due to the efforts of a dedicated group of volunteers and the support of many, the community is close to meeting their $2.1 million goal. The donations from this campaign will close the gap on the remaining amount necessary, enabling the Village of Sparta to finish construction and provide this recreational space to residents and visitors.

Public Spaces Community Places is a collaborative effort of the MEDC, the Michigan Municipal League, and Patronicity where local residents can use crowdfunding to be part of the development of strategic projects in their communities and be backed with a matching grant from MEDC.
