HBO's 'Togetherness' filmed a portion of seconed-season episode in Detroit

"Togetherness" to feature Detroit's neighborhoods and downtown in second season

LANSING, MI – HBO’s “Togetherness” will feature Detroit’s neighborhoods and downtown in the second season of the series, which premieres in 2016. The series, which filmed in Detroit in late April, will be eligible to receive a $151,584 incentive from the Michigan Film & Digital Media Office with disbursement of funds contingent upon verified documentation of spending. 

The production estimates it spent approximately $356,000 of eligible spend for two days of filming. In addition, the production hired 142 extras with Michigan residents making up 70 percent of the entire film crew.  

“We’re always pleased to have HBO back in Michigan," said Jenell Leonard, commissioner of Michigan Film Office. "Detroit's economic and cultural revival continues to inspire filmmakers, production companies and studios.” 

“We at HBO have always enjoyed positive filming experiences in Michigan,” said Jay Roewe, senior vice president of production for HBO West Coast Productions. 

Created by Jay Duplass, Mark Duplass and Steve Zissis, “Togetherness” is the TV debut of the Duplass brothers as a writing team. Blending laughter and pathos, the show follows four adults nearing 40, living under the same roof and struggling to keep their relationships and dreams alive. 

Earlier this summer, legislation was signed into law eliminating the program for film and digital media incentives. The incentive agreement for this project was approved before this legislation took effect.  

Any film or digital media project approved and issued a fully executed agreement prior to the signing of the legislation will be administered in accordance with the law. The Michigan Film & Digital Media Office is no longer accepting applications for projects seeking incentives.
