Two companies to expand in Michigan with support from Michigan Strategic Fund

Projects will generate total investment of more than $14 million, add 60 jobs

LANSING, Mich. – Two business expansions that will generate $14 million in total investment and create 60 jobs in Michigan have received Michigan Strategic Fund approval for support, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today.

“The successful expansion of these two companies in West Michigan and the Upper Peninsula reflects Michigan’s growing economy and expanding job opportunities for our state’s talented and abundant workforce,” said Jeff Mason, CEO of the MEDC, the state’s chief marketing and business attraction arm that administers programs and performs due diligence on behalf of the MSF.

Holland Charter Township was awarded $430,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for the GNS America Co.expansion project in Holland. The company, which specializes in metal stamping, hot stamping, welding, and assembly for the auto industry, plans a 40,000-square-foot addition to its existing facility to house new machinery and equipment. The project is expected generate a total capital investment of $3.5 million and create 30 jobs. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Nevada. Holland Charter Township will use the CDBG funds to improve drainage and accessibility at the site, enabling the expansion to take place.

Superior Extrusion, Inc., founded in 1996, produces high quality aluminum extrusions for a variety of industries. The company is at capacity at its facility in Forsyth Township (Marquette County) and needs to expand to accommodate future growth opportunities. The company plans to increase production with additional building space, machinery and equipment by redeveloping the former K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base property in Forsyth Township. The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $10.5 million and create 30 jobs, resulting in a $150,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Iowa. Forsyth Township has offered support to the project in the form of property tax abatement.
