Designation facilitates private investment, improves economic development opportunities
LANSING, Mich. – For their efforts in establishing a solid foundation to attract private investment and further build on municipality assets, Rogers City has been awarded the Redevelopment Ready Communities (RRC) certification, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) announced today.
The MEDC formally recognizes the city of Rogers City as the 50th Certified Redevelopment Ready Community in Michigan. Rogers City joins communities in all corners of the state that have qualified as “thoroughly prepared” when it comes to planning and zoning to remove traditional barriers and promote opportunities for prospective investors. “Our mission at MEDC is to support Michigan’s strong economic momentum and empower communities to establish a strong planning, zoning and economic development foundation,” said Michelle Parkkonen, Managing Director, Technical Assistance Programs at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Rogers City is well-positioned to continue to implement their vision for the future and further improve the quality of life for its residents. We look forward to building upon our relationship with the city and supporting local economic development efforts.”
As an RRC participant, Rogers City received a comprehensive assessment that measured current community and economic development practices compared to RRC best practice standards. The program evaluates and certifies communities that integrate transparency, predictability, and efficiency into economic development practices. Certification status is a compelling indicator that a community has removed development barriers and streamlined processes to be more competitive and attractive to investors.
“The action of Rogers City being named the 50th Redevelopment Ready Community in the state of Michigan is significant in that it sends a strong message to developers that our community is progressive and business-friendly,” said Mayor Scott McLennan. “This city continues to welcome investment and this certification and partnership with the MEDC is yet another proof that we are committed to working cooperatively with businesses seeking to locate in Rogers City.”
“I am extremely thankful to the folks at MEDC who helped guide us through the RRC process,” said City Manager Joe Hefele. “We are working hard in Rogers City to turn our quaint, picturesque downtown into a vibrant, diverse business community. We believe certification in the Redevelopment Ready Community program will serve as a catalyst toward that end. This really is a wonderful day for Rogers City.”
